What a tax invoice in Saudi Arabia must contain

The VAT Implementing Regulations set the details each type of invoice must show; the invoice must be in Arabic, and another language may be added.

Tax invoice B2B

  • The words “Tax Invoice” clearly at the top
  • The issue date and a unique sequential invoice number
  • The seller's name, address and VAT registration number
  • The buyer's name and address, and their VAT number if registered
  • The supply date if it differs from the issue date
  • A description of the goods or services, quantities and unit price excluding VAT
  • Any discounts, the VAT rate and VAT amount
  • The total payable in Saudi riyals including VAT

Simplified tax invoice B2C

  • The words “Simplified Tax Invoice”
  • The issue date and a unique sequential number
  • The seller's name, address and VAT number
  • A description of the goods or services
  • The total including VAT, and the VAT amount
  • A QR code (required since Phase 1)

Since e-invoicing Phase 1 (generation), invoices are issued electronically with a QR code; in Phase 2 (integration), businesses' systems are connected to ZATCA's FATOORA platform in waves. Rules change from time to time, so confirm with ZATCA or your accountant.

Questions about the invoice generator

Is the invoice generator really free?

Yes. Create and print as many invoices and quotations as you like, with no sign-up and no fees.

Where is my invoice data kept?

Only in your browser on your device. The tool sends nothing to our servers, and you can export your invoices as a JSON file to keep a copy.

Does the QR code meet ZATCA's requirements?

It follows the Phase 1 (generation) format: seller name, VAT number, invoice time, total with VAT and VAT amount, TLV-encoded then Base64. Businesses in Phase 2 (integration) must issue their invoices from a solution integrated with ZATCA's platform.

What is the difference between a tax invoice and a simplified tax invoice?

A tax invoice is usually issued when selling to a business (B2B) and shows the buyer's details and VAT number; a simplified invoice is usually issued when selling to consumers (B2C), with fewer details.

Can I print on an 80 mm thermal printer?

Yes. Choose the “Thermal 80mm” template and the 80 mm paper size, then press Print and pick your thermal printer.

Does it work for countries other than Saudi Arabia?

Yes, for 22 Arab countries: the currency, decimals, tax name and rate follow the country. The ZATCA QR code is for Saudi Arabia only.
